Builders for Christ

Builders for Christ is the construction mission of our church. This mission was founded in the 1980’s by Lawrence Crowley from Birmingham, Alabama. What started as a small group of churches has now grown to thousands of volunteers from dozens of states.

Summer Project

The primary focus of the mission is to help build new church space for churches that have just started or have outgrown their existing facilities. The local church provides the land and material while Builders for Christ provides the labor and knowledge to construct the church in one summer.

FBC Griffith donates ten days to the yearly summer project. Every year, we leave early on the first Friday morning of June and return the following Saturday. Typically, our church has been responsible for the layout and framing of the building. Once our week is over, most outside walls are completely framed and the trusses are set. Depending on the project, we sometimes install the roof decking and frame the interior walls. Since Builders for Christ helped with the addition to our church in 1996, our group has traveled to New Jersey, southern Indiana, Illinois, Connecticut, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Our project for Summer 2007 will be in Slidell, LA to help a church devasted by Hurrican Katrina. We are currently assisting a sister Baptist church in Valparaiso, Indiana one weekend a month.

Weekend Projects

The secondary focus of our local Builders for Christ is to help those in need locally with small construction projects. We have built wheel-chair accessible ramps, re-shingled roofs, installed windows and doors, and assisted with other projects for members of our church and local community. Once a quarter, we sponsor a chicken and fish fry to help raise funds for the purchase of new tools.  Please visit the Builder for Christ Calendar to see the next project.

No Experience Needed!

Everyone is welcome to attend any of our construction missions: no experience needed! There are plenty of experienced construction workers that will take the time to explain your tasks and how to accomplish the job. If you join us for the first time, please bring a hammer, a nail pouch, and comfortable work clothes. If you have further questions, please contact our Builders for Christ leader, Rich Powell, on any Sunday.
